Texas

Texas doesn't allow commercial casinos, so the only ones in the state belong to its three tribes. They run electronic bingo machines, which look and play much like slots, under federal Indian gaming law. It's a long way from LA, so these are here for anyone traveling in Texas.

Licensed and regulated by the state and allowed in cities that approve them. California law does not let a card room bank its own games, so players bet against each other or against a rotating player dealer, and the room earns a fee for each seat or hand.

That is why you will find poker, baccarat, pai gow and California versions of blackjack, but no slot machines. The state tried to tighten the rules for blackjack style games in 2026, and a San Francisco judge blocked those rules, so check with the room for what is dealt today.

Run by tribes on their own land under agreements with the state. They can offer slot machines and house banked table games like blackjack, and many are full resorts with hotels, pools, spas and concert venues.

Not the Las Vegas kind. What LA County has is licensed card rooms, in Commerce, Bell Gardens, Inglewood, Gardena, Compton and Hawaiian Gardens. You can play poker, baccarat, blackjack and pai gow, but there are no slot machines, and the players bank the games rather than the house.
